Our story, our mission, and the people behind our work.
One Shot Leadership was founded in Wyola, Montana — a small community on the Crow Indian Reservation in Big Horn County. Joshua Stewart, a Crow Nation community member, recognized a growing crisis: Native American youth were losing connections to their cultural identity while also lacking structured mentorship and positive role models.
The organization takes its name from a simple but powerful idea: every young person deserves one shot — one real opportunity — to discover their potential and build a meaningful future. Our role is to make that shot count.
What began as informal mentoring sessions grew into a structured nonprofit. One Shot Leadership was formally established and registered as a 501(c)(3) public charity, giving the community a permanent institution dedicated to Native youth development.
To equip Native American youth in rural Montana with the leadership skills, mentorship, and cultural grounding that create lasting positive change in their lives and communities.
A future where every Native youth in our region stands confident in their identity, connected to their heritage, and empowered to lead their families and communities forward.
